I used silhouette images of dancers to reflect some of the acts in the Alight festival.

Using the same technique as before, I overlayed the word Alight onto the same image but this time I got rid of the image from around the text to create a range of colours inside the text.
playing around with the text
I started to add borders to the edges of the text to define the text and make it stand out from the image but at the same time blend in with the it to create an identity. |
Using the light paintings I created I started to look at applying type to the images to create a branding and logo design for alight...
I started to work with applying text to this image because it has a range of vibrant colours to work with and creates has some interesting shapes and contrast to work with.
I started by choosing a simple text (Helvetica) that is widely known and legible against the chaotic blend of colours. |
I started to play around with text and made it lighter and took the colour and counters out so that the light is visible through the and behind the text. |
And on this one I made the outline of the text darker to see the contrast and what works best between the lighter and darker text. |

Drawings
I went out and started to draw some of the buildings where the events of Alight would be taking place.

Painting with light :)
Experimenting with light and colour, I got some fairy lights set the exposure time on my camera to 4 seconds and waved the camera about in front of the lights after capture and got these images from it, I took some with white fairy lights aswel but I think the coloured images work better for the Alight values.
Some of my favourite images!!
Applying Ideas to the Values
From the sessions on values and audience, I came up with a list of words with that I believe to be most important when looking at branding Alight, They are;
-Yorkshire
-Celebration
-Light
-Colour
-People coming together
From this I did a spider diagram thinking about ways in which I could show these values in a suitable way for the wide audience range;
Typical Yorkshire things like Roses, Yorkshire puddings, and Sheffield's buildings
Flowers, Balloons, Confetti Suggest and show Celebration
Candles, Lanterns, Fireworks, Fireflies suggest light and all of these quick ideas have colour and an element of bringing all different people together.
Alight... Audience
I then started to look at the target audience of Alight and the approach and most important things to look at when branding.
I came to the conclusion that Alight has a wide audience range and should therefore be bright and colourful, attractive and have a clear identity to use throughout Alight promotions and events.
